The Kiribati Qualifications Authority (KQA) was established in 2017 by the Government of Kiribati and is presently housed in the Ministry of Education.

In 2023, the Government of Kiribati endorsed the new legislation known as the Kiribati Qualifications Authority Act, which is still to be enacted.
